Description of the Organization The Matagorda Episcopal Health Outreach Program has been operating since June 1999 servingfour rural sites in Matagorda County. The service area has been designated by the The Texas Department of Health as a Medically Underserved Area (MUA). The mobile medical unit serves approximately 4,500 people annually and operates year-round Monday through Thursday. MEHOP provides health care and spiritual ministry to the isolated, poor, disadvantaged, disabled and to those who are otherwise unable to access mainstream health care systems regardless of age, gender or ethnicity. Primary health care is provided by way of acute care on a minor emergency basis, chronic care, community screening, wellness and health education activities. MEHOP is also a teaching facility for the University of Houston School of Social Work. Mission Themission of MEHOP is to improve the health status of our clients by providing quality primary healthcare services and spiritual care to people in the communities we serve regardless of age, gender, ethnicity, religion, or the ability to pay. The MEHOP vision is two fold: - To serve as an evangelist outreach.
- To provide medical services to the underserved population.
